Nigeria will to make a strong case of their eminence in Africa football by beating Ghana in an international friendly next week in London, according to striker Peter Odemwingie.

The Super Eagles have suffered several defeats at the hands of the Black Stars in recent times but the West Brom attacker believes its time the cycle is reversed and for Nigeria to relive its glory days.

“It’s a game that every Nigerian and Ghanaian wants to take part in," the 30-year-old said.

"This is a chance for us to play against a team that had a good World Cup and drew with England. It’s a match where we can make a statement and say that we are still here.

“We have the talent to be good again. We had a very good team in the 90s and our supporters got used to us winning now other African nations have improved.”

Odemwingie couldn't have stated more the great rivalry that exists between the two football powerhouses despite both countries having a lot in common.

“It’s a special game for both countries because we are like good friends but at the same time sport is about competition and we want to compete plus we want to see which team is better. I’m looking forward to it and do want to help my team win this game.

“When you look at Ghana’s results and performances they do deserve to be praised and given credit. But this is now an opportunity for Nigeria. Football’s always thinking about the next game that’s the key and way forward."
