The Ghana Football Association has announced ex-international CK Akonnor as the new Black Stars coach with David Duncan as his deputy.
The ex-Black Stars captain replaces Kwesi Appiah whose contract was not renewed after it expired in 2019.
Akonnor was settled upon after government instructed Ghana FA officials to appoint a local coach.
In November last year, he joined the Black Stars coaching staff as an assistant coach in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
The 45-year-old was named head coach of Ghanaian giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko in October 2018 where he led them to the Group stage of the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.
He started his coaching career with Sekondi Eleven Wise, then a Premier League club, in 2009 but got sacked.
Akonnor later landed at Hearts of Oak in March 2011 replace Serbian Nebojsa Vucicevic but got sacked in November 2012- five matches into the 2012/13 season.
He joined hired by Dreams FC and then later to AshantiGold where he stepped in to rescue their season.
The newly composed backroom staff includes Najawu Issahâ as Goalkeepers Coach, Dr. Christ Adomoakoâ -âTeam Doctor and Henry Marteyâ as Welfare Officer
Two Masseurs S. K. Ankomahâ and George Nii Anumâ Amasa and two Equipment officers Daniel Yankeyâ and Suleman Zampa.
