Asamoah Gyan’s newly constructed Astro turf for alma mater Accra Academy will be used for the first time by the school on Saturday August 5.

As part of activities marking the school’s 17th Home Coming, a football tournament had been arranged for the Old students and it will take place at the Asamoah Gyan Sports Centre, which was built by the Captain of the Black Stars recently and located within the campus of the school.

Gyan, an old student of Accra Academy, cut a sod two years ago to start the ultra-modern astro turf, which cost a whopping US$200,000.

The project was completed early July with its unveiling well attended. Former President Jerry John Rawlings and Sports minister Isaac Asiamah were special guests at the ceremony.

The astro turf pitch project also includes a tartan track for athletics, dressing rooms, a fence wall, toilet facilities and Flood lights for late evening activities.
