Ghana legend Mohammed Polo has described Opoku Afriyie as one of the best strikers Ghana has produced in a glowing tribute to the late Black Stars and Asante Kotoko player.

Afriyie, nicknamed 'Beyie' which translates Wizard,  died on Sunday, March 29, 2020, in Kumasi at the age of 75.

Afriyie was an integral member of the Black Stars squad that won Ghana’s third Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 1978.

He scored two goals in the final as the Black Stars beat the Cranes of Uganda 2-0.

“I think Opoku is one of the best strikers Ghana has produced and you can compare him to the Germans’ Gerd Muller," Polo,  also a member of the 1978 winning team, said.

"He was one the best and it's sad that we're losing him at this point. He was a great person and I hope God will grant him eternal rest"

The burial date of the late football icon is expected to be announced in the coming days.
