Ottaiamo: Napoli forward is in a state of shock after robbery

Published on: 29 February 2016

Following the incident on Saturday evening that saw Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne robbed at gunpoint in Naples, the player’s agent, Antonio Ottaiano, has revealed the player is in a state of shock.

Insigne, along with friends, were pursued in his BMW by the criminals, who held a gun to the 22-year-old before taking off with approximately €800, two bracelets and a Rolex watch.

“Lorenzo’s situation is what you would expect from someone who suffered a major scare, he is in shock,” Ottaiano told Radio Marte. “He experienced moments of terror but he is grateful now that he suffered no harm other than the loss of some possessions.

“Incidents like this can so easily turn to tragedy.”

Insigne, who was asked by one of the culprits to score a against Fiorentina on Monday, is not the only Napoli player to experience a robbery while out in the city, with captain Marek Hamsik, Juan Zuniga and Valon Behrami also finding themselves as victims of an attack, as well as the wife of former Partenopei forward Edinson Cavani.

“A lot of people are using this incident against the city of Naples,” he continued. “That does not accurately portray this city.

“It was just looting. Incidents like this happen in every city but there is a bigger deal made out of them when they happen here.”

Napoli visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Monday evening as they look to close the four-point gap between themselves and Juventus at the top of Serie A.
