Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has explained his decision to start Benjamin Asare in goal for Ghana's 5-0 win over Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, ahead of first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi and other options.
Addo revealed that Asare's impressive displays in training earned him the starting spot.
"We assessed all our goalkeepers and watched several games. It was a close call, but Benjamin stood out in training," Addo explained.
Asare, 32, justified his selection with a clean sheet, helping Ghana to a dominant victory that propelled them to the top of Group I.
The win sets up a crucial encounter with Madagascar on Monday.
Addo's decision to start Asare raised some eyebrows, but the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper proved to be a reliable choice, making several key saves throughout the match.
