Ozil set to feature at St Mary's

Published on: 15 December 2018

Unai Emery has indicated that Mesut Ozil will feature for Arsenal on Sunday in the Gunners' Premier League clash at Southampton.

The 30-year-old German has not played in a Premier League match since the 1-1 draw with Wolves more than a month ago but Emery is keen to use him against Saints, 5/2 to be relegated this season.

The Arsenal boss is also ready to bring Aaron Ramsey back into his starting line-up and says he has a plan to cope with his team's central defensive crisis.

Laurent Koscielny made his first appearance of the season in Thursday's 1-0 win over Qarabag in the Europa League but Sokratis Papastathopoulos is suspended, Shkodran Mustafi has a hamstring strain and Rob Holding's season is over following cruciate knee ligament surgery.

Emery could use Stephan Lichtsteiner, Nacho Monreal, Granit Xhaka or Mohamed Elneny at the heart of his defence, saying: "I believe in my players, in our players, and I think we can use other players [as] centre-backs.

"I have one idea in my mind but we need to [work in training] and to know how they will recover physically, for the possibility of playing on Sunday.

"Mesut Ozil is okay for Sunday. We think yes [Ramsey will be available]. The doctor said to me he thinks on Saturday he can train and be okay for Sunday."

Arsenal, 1/1 to finish in the top four this season, can be backed at 19/20 to beat Southampton at St Mary's.
