Palermo bring back old coach after firing Ballardini

Published on: 06 January 2016

Palermo have on Wednesday night fired Davide Ballardini from the role of coach, and brought back Giuseppe Iachini.

The Rosanero lost 3-1 to Fiorentina on the night, and club president Maurizio Zamparini’s notoriously short patience wore thin with Ballardini in the firing line.

Zamparini announced the decision minutes after the match, and confirmed that former coach Iachini would be reinstated into the role he held only two months ago.

Iachini was infamously relieved of his duties back in November, despite beating Chievo in his final match.

Under Ballardini, Palermo slipped down the Serie A table and currently sit a precarious three points above the relegation zone.

In addition to the club’s poor league form, Palermo also crashed out of the Coppa Italia to third tier side Alessandria in embarrassing fashion under his leadership.
