Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has announced his decision to sack Davide Ballardini and bring in Guillermo Barros Schelotto as the team’s new coach.

Sunday afternoon’s 1-0 victory against Hellas Verona wasn’t enough for the Rosanero patron, who has now lost his patience with Ballardini.

“Against Genoa [Fabio] Viviani will be the coach, after which he will become an assistant to Guillermo Barros Schelotto,” Zamparini told the assembled media, after calling a press conference.

“It was not an easy decision to make.

“About a month ago, he [Schelotto] came to my house in Friuli and we talked about a project for a new Palermo, which is to compete at the top level for next season.”

Whilst Ballardini’s departure is yet to be officially confirmed, it can be expected that he no longer has a future at the club.

Looking forward, Zamparini then announced plans to build upon his current squad.

“In June a top level player will arrive,” he continued.

“I think we have a good team with high quality players, not all at the highest level, but good players nonetheless.”
