Pantsil impresses in rare Fulham playing time

Ghana defender John Pantsil’s hopes of staying at Fulham have been faintly revived after impressing as a first half substitute in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham on Saturday.

The right-back replaced Carlos Salcido on 24 minutes and wasted no time on taking advantage of the rare playing time under coach Mark Hughes.

Hughes has left the player on the bench since his arrival at the start of the season which has sparked reports that the Ghanaian could join another club.

If reports that Birmingham are keen on swooping for Pantsil, then the Ghanaian did enough to impress the Blues’ boss Alex Mc Leish with his performance as he is crosses and defending was eye-catching.

Pantsil  got a standing ovation from Fulham fans at the end of the game as he got off on his trademark lap of honour.

The defender’s contract will soon run out at Craven Cottage which means there will be a bit of a bargain to be had, this has alerted the Blues boss.

McLeish is reportedly lining up a January transfer window.

The Blues boss is thought to be looking for new faces to bolster his back-line ahead of the New Year and it appears that Ghana international full-back Pantsil has emerged as a viable option given that he has dropped down Cottagers boss Mark Hughes' pecking order this season.

Pantsil, who joined Fulham from West Ham in 2008, played a key role in their Uefa Europa League campaign under Roy Hodgson last season.

However Stephen Kelly and Chris Baird have jumped ahead of him in Hughes' first-team plans, leaving him kicking his heels on the sidelines.

And, with Pantsil out of contract next summer, a Blues offer of around £500,000 could be enough to entice Fulham into allowing him to move to St Andrew's in January.
