Fabio Paratici's arrival at Tottenham was always going to guarantee that the Premier League side would dip into the transfer market, but the former Juventus director's approach so far this summer has a lot of Italians with their eyebrows raised more than Carlo Ancelotti.
Having worked closely together with Giuseppe Marotta for years in Turin, Paratici then succeeded his former colleague with a bit of a reputation, but his work once he was the main man at the club left a lot to be desired.
By the time he set off from the Allianz Stadium, most associated with Juventus were happy to see the back of him after a series of questionable transfer windows, and he appears to be confusing Serie A for a supermarket this summer.
London-bound
Spurs' first summer arrival from Italy is set to be Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini. Having done relatively well with the impressive underdogs in his two seasons as Gian Piero Gasperini's undeniable first-choice goalkeeper, Juan Musso's arrival from Udinese brought his time in Bergamo to an end.
Gollini, while being the only goalkeeper in Italy to deny a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty since the Portuguese signed for Juventus, has always left a little to be desired. His positioning isn't always what it should be and that Atalanta looked to upgrade on him this summer shows that Spurs are getting someone who should be no more than a backup option to Nuno Espirito Santo.
Cristian Romero, Gollini's Atalanta teammate, is another heavily linked with a move and there have been some reports suggesting that personal terms have even been agreed.
The Copa America winner was superb for Atalanta once he settled, having arrived from Genoa via Juventus, but he has only had one season playing at the top and in the Champions League.
He is, however, an undeniably excellent defender. His occasional impetuosity and physical style might see him have some problems in England, though.
On the rumour mill
Beyond those, Spurs have been linked with moves for Sampdoria's Mikkel Damsgaard, Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini and even Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne.
While the latter's contract situation in Campania puts him on most European clubs' radar, it's hard to imagine him walking away from the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, though Damsgaard and Pellegrini could be possibilities for Tottenham.
Damsgaard isn't likely to move for anything under 30 million euros this summer after an impressive showing at Euro 2020, and Pellegrini has received a lot of praise for his last 12 months at Roma, though he can still blow in and out of games a little too often.
