Partizan strikers Tagoe, Adiyiah assaulted in a Serbian cafe

Ghanaian strikers Prince Tagoe and Dominic Adiyiah of Serbian giants were assaulted at cafe Scenarium in Belgrade on Sunday.

The incident came just three days before their clash with Red Star with suspicion that their attacker was from their arch rivals.

The two Ghanaian players have been assigned two personal body guards in the wake of the incident at the cafe the two frequently visit as they both reside in its vicinity.

Supporters of Partizan Belgrade stormed the café to support their two players after word of the assault was aired on a local radio station.

According to the information released by the police, the clash happened as the footballers were involved in a misunderstanding over seating.

According to official information Adiyiah was grabbed by the throat by a man, as the group started pushing, shoving, and an angry exchange of words.

Tagoe and Adiyiah brushed aside the severity of the incident insisting that the guy who assaulted them was drunk.

“It was an unprovoked attack but not that serious as it is being played out because the guy who confronted us was drunk,” Tagoe told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“He was saying something in the Serbian language which we didn’t understand and that led to a misunderstanding.

“Supporters of Partizan rushed there in their number and positively surprised us. We cannot rule anything out.”

While the two Partizan players were at the police station giving statements about the incident, the club’s secretary Ljubisa Rankovic came to the place of incident.

“Our players have been attacked, but luckily they are fine. I am not sure they will be returning to their flat and will most probably spend the night at our training ground Zemunelo,” was all Rankovic would discuss. A few Partizan fans turned up on the spot to give support to their players as the striking duo will be needed ahead of Wednesday’s second leg of the Serbian Cup.
