Pep: Three more wins needed

Published on: 25 April 2019

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has urged his players to remain calm for the final three remaining games of a thrilling Premier League title race.

The Citizens moved back to the top of the table thanks to a comprehensive 2-0 derby victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, with the reigning champions just one point ahead of Liverpool.

Liverpool are chasing and what they have done is incredible, but it's in our hands.

And, with a tough trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Sunday next up, Guardiola is only too well aware of the need for total focus from his squad.

He told reporters: "We're still not champions with three games left.

"I told the players don't read tomorrow, don't watch the television, just rest and sleep a lot. We go to Burnley and we know how tough it will be. It's important to be calm."

The Spaniard added of the neck-and-neck battle with the Reds: "Both teams deserve the title, but it can be just one. The team that is going to lose can't have regrets because they have given everything.

"We increased the level for the Premier League last season with 100 points. Liverpool are chasing and what they have done is incredible, but it's in our hands.

"We are on 89 points and Liverpool 88 points and it's tough because there are still three games to play - it is incredible, but it is what it is - and we still need to win our remaining games."

City are now priced at 1/4 to be crowned Premier League champions again this season, with Liverpool 3/1 to clinch a first title since 1990.
