ENGLAND

Michael Essien warmed the bench for Chelsea as they lost the Community Shield trophy losing 3-2 to Manchester City at the Villa Park.

FRANCE

Winger Ishmael Yartey featured 73 minutes for Sochaux who lost 3-2 at home to Bastia.

Right-back Jerry Vandam missed out on a first team place as his Lille side beat Saint Etienne 2-1.

Midfielder Rabiu Mohammed Alhassan saw 19 minutes of action for Evian TG who lost 3-2 to Bordeaux.

Defender Jonathan Mensah was out with injury.

Centre-back John Boye replaced Nigeria international Onyekachi Apam on 24 minutes as Rennes suffered a 1-0 reverse at home to Olympique Lyon.

Andre and Jordan Ayew both lasted the full regulation time as Marseille snatched a 1-0 win at Stade Reims 1-0.

Jordan was booked on the 94th minute mark.

In the Ligue 2, Haminu Dramani conspicuously missed out of Arles Avignon's first team squad as they drew one-all at Gazelec Ajaccio.

Monaco pressed home a 3-2 victory against Istres with Frence-born Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah out the squad.

GERMANY

In the Bundesliga II young striker Kwame Nsor was forced to sit out Kaiserslautern's 2-1 away victory over Aalen on Friday.

Denis Danso-Weidlich impressed in midfield for Jahn Regensburg who brushed aside MSV Duisburg 2-0.

Elsewhere in the Liga 3, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh lasted 64 minutes for ten-man Rot-Weiß Erfurt who lost narrowly to Osnabrück in a 1-0 loss.

Arminia Bielefeld continued their surge up the table with a 1-0 win over Karlsruher SC.

Former AshantiGold striker Eric Agyemang came off the bench to play 16 minutes while Marcel Appiah warmed the bench.

HOLLAND

Fred Benson marked his return to Eredivisie by featuring 71 minutes for newly promoted PEC Zwolle who drew 1-1 at Roda JC.

Kwame Quansah played the entire duration for Heracles Almelo who drew 1-1 with VVV Venlo.

Nana Akwasi Asare played full throttle for FC Utrecht who lost 1-0 to Feyenoord whose coach Ronald Koeman left out Elvis Manu from his squad.

Youngster Kevin Tano warmed the bench for ADO Den Haag who drew 2-2 at Vitesse Arnhem.

BELGIUM

Standard Liege recorded their first victory of the Pro League after thrashing Waasland-Beveren 3-1 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

Injury ruled out Ghana defender Daniel Opare from the game.

Abdul Iddi Yakini watched the entire game from the KV Mechelen bench as they drew 3-3 with leaders Club Brugge.

Abraham Kudemor scored an 80th minute match winner to claim the points for Sporting Charleroi in a 1-0 win over Kortrijk.

There was neither Rahim Ayew nor Cofie Bekoe in Lierse SK's side that drew 1-1 at Mons.

Bekoe was serving suspension while Rahim is nursing an injury.

DENMARK

Ghana midfielder Enock Adu-Kofi helped Nordsjælland to demolish Silkeborg 6-1.

NORWAY

Stromsgodset suffered their fourth defeat of the season after going down 4-0 at Tromso.

Ghana first choice goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey kept the post for Godset but Black Stars-bound Razak Nuhu was unused.

Youngster Enock Kwakwa also sat on the bench while Bismark Adjei-Boateng was handed his debut by coming on as a 75th minute mark sub.

Former Ghana U17 captain Paul Addo watched from the bench as his Odd Grenland side lost 3-1 at VÃ¥lerenga.

UKRAINE

Dominic Adiyiah played full throttle for Arsenal Kiev who run away with a slim 1-0 victory over Metalist.

Compatriot Abeiku Quansah is nursing an injury.

Defender Samuel Inkoom continued his bench warming exercise at FC Dnipro as he sat on the bench once more in their 4-1 drubbing of Hoverla-Zakarpattia on Saturday.

Derek Boateng was excluded from the Dnipro team.

PORTUGAL

Christian Atsu won his first silverware at FC Porto as he lasted 58 minutes for the Drgaons in their 1-0 win over Academica de Coimbra.

ITALY

Kwadwo Asamoah scored a wonderful goal for Juventus as they defeated Napoli 4-2 to win the Italian Super Cup on Saturday.

Young striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom was in the Juventus contingent but did not feature in the game.

FRIENDLY

Striker Samuel Afum won the top scorer award of the Benyas Club Tournament in Dubai after hitting a brace for FC Smouha in their 3-3 draw with Al Kuwait on Saturday.

But Smouha lost 3-2 on penalties to miss out on the trophy.

AZERBAIJAN

Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Francis Bossman was booked in 32nd minute and lasted 46 minutes for Revan Baki in the Premyer Liqa.
