Pickford praises Toffees' efforts

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford thinks his side can take plenty of positives from a goalless draw at Crystal Palace in their opening game of the Premier League season.

The Toffees held on to grab a share of the spoils after having Morgan Schneiderlin sent off 14 minutes from time at Selhurst Park, with Pickford full of praise for his team-mates after a tough afternoon in the capital.

He the club's official website: "We need to be picking up as many points as we can and we always go into games thinking we can win, but we went down to ten men and still played well. We managed the game.

"When we went down to ten men we knew Palace would get a second wind, but we dealt with that very well as a defensive unit from top to bottom and we didn't concede."

Meanwhile, Toffees head coach Marco Silva is hoping that the ankle injury sustained by midfielder Andres Gomes in the stalemate with the Eagles proves to be nothing too serious.

Having seen the Portugal international forced off at half-time at Selhurst Park, Silva added: "We hope it's not serious with Andre, it's an ankle injury. Let's see what our medical staff say, but we hope it's not too serious."

Everton are back in action next Saturday when they play host to Watford, with the home side 4/6 to win the game at Goodison Park and 15/2 to do so by a 1-0 scoreline.
