Player ratings: Ghana 7-0 Lesotho

Published on: 02 June 2012

Sulley Muntari, Jordan Ayew and debutant Christian Atsu Twasam were the top performers for Ghana in the opening 2014 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.

The Black Stars swept away their opponents with a staggering 7-0 win on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

GHANAsoccernet.com rates the performance of the Black Stars in coach Akwasi Appiah’s first game in charge of the team.

Adam Larsen Kwarasey (Goalkeeper) 6/10

The 24-year-old Stromsgodset man was on a virtual holiday and had to occasionally warm himself into the game by sharing passes with his defensive colleagues. He was never really tested in the game as the opposition failed to thread beyond the Ghana defensive line.

Samuel Inkoom (Right-back) 6/10

For the period the Dnipro man lasted on the pitch before being replace by Daniel Opare, Inkoom's duties were not to defend but play an unorthodox role of piling more pressure on the Lesotho defence. His bid to nail down a starting spot was somehow scuppered his inability to deliver decent crosses.

Harrison Afful (Left-back) 7/10

Showed glimpses of the attacking intent that is always visible when in the national colours. The Esperance defender constantly raided the Lesotho area and was involved in the sequence of play that saw Jordan Ayew score the double.

Jerry Akaminko (Central defence) 7/10

With his appearance in the game owing to John Mensah's absence, the Manisaspor man needed to extol a performance that could confirm his place in a department where competition is becoming tighter and he ensured that by scoring the 7th goal with a close range finish.

John Boye (Central defence) 6/10

The Stade Rennes center-half was in full command of affairs but it would be a tricky occasion on which to judge defenders because of the lack of a serious threat posed towards them. Boye kept the backline intact with his experience from the 2012 Nations Cup though there was no real test from the Lesotho forward.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Central midfielder) 7/10

This was the first competitive action for the Udinese man since he suffered a season ending injury in February at the Nations Cup. Badu put in yet another efficient performance in the heart of Ghana’s midfield.

Derek Boateng (Midfield) 8/10

It was yet just another beautiful display from the Dnipro man. He was precise with his passes and clearly proved the most outstanding player in the department.

Kwadwo Asamoah (Midfield) 6/10

The Manchester United-pursuit was silent on the evening and did little to trouble the opposition. That however may be owned to the measure of opposition.

Sulley Muntari (Midfield) 9/10

The AC Milan player was absolutely selfless on the evening . He opened the scoring on the 15th minute mark with a trademark cracking effort and set up goals for Jordan Ayew and Dominic Adiyiah. He proved a splendid leader on the evening and was one of the main features of the evening.

Jordan Ayew (Forward) 8/10

The Marseille attacker netted a double to score his debut international goals. His 45th minute goal was pure class and his effort on the evening duly paid off handsomely as he scored on the 88th.

Dominic Adiyiah (Forward) 7/10

Despite the general discontent with his inclusion in the final 24-man squad for the game, the former U-20 World Cup golden boot winner grabbed a brace on the evening. He could have easily score four times if he had been on point in attack.

Anthony Annan (Midfield) 5/10

He came on to replace Derek Boateng and did well to stabilize Ghana’s midfield until the end of the game.

Christian Atsu (Winger) 6/10

Had limited time as a late introduction but impressed many with his silky touches and trickery. He capped his performance with a well-taken goal which had the Baba Yara Stadium singing his name as the new ‘Messi’ of Ghana football.
