Players and managers told to mind their language as EPL builds towards return

Players and managers will be warned to mind their language ahead of a behind-closed-doors return to football.

Sportsmail understands officials at a number of top-flight clubs have been alarmed by the clear audio from Bundesliga matches and will sit down with their staff ahead of a potential restart to lay down the law.

While plans to pipe in crowd noise are being considered, there is a concern that the new environment will enable viewers to hear exactly what the players and managers are saying.

And, given the tap room language often aired, there are fears that clubs may end up facing disciplinary action should it continue.

At Thursday’s Premier League meeting, clubs will be asked to vote on a number of media enhancements which have been proposed as part of a charm offensive to prevent broadcasters clawing back millions.

As reported by Sportsmail, plans to put microphones in technical areas are likely to meet considerable opposition. Discussions have been held with managers and some are unsurprisingly not keen on the idea.

It can also be disclosed that one of the proposed enhancements is for players to film a pre-match clip of themselves in the team hotel or on the coach as part of the build-up to the game.

The enhancements, which will be presented as a package, also include cameras in the dressing room and half-time interviews with managers as they return to the dugout.

Pre- and post-match Interviews, traditionally held in the tunnel areas, will now take place at the side of the pitch.

While a vote is scheduled on the package of measures, they may well be split. Any new additions would be for the period of behind-closed-doors matches although some fear broadcasters will subsequently demand they become permanent additions.
