Inter Allies Technical Director, Willie Klutse, has confirmed that the club’s players were involved in the infamous match-fixing scandal surrounding their final Ghana Premier League game against AshantiGold SC in the 2020/21 season.
The two teams were relegated to Ghana's third-tier league, Division Two, by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the game, which ended 7-0 in favor of AshantiGold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Klutse revealed that the internal findings of the investigation into the scandal were disappointing, particularly due to the involvement of players who had jeopardized their futures.
“I was not too worried, but I was disappointed in that group of playersâthat they would use their future in gambling. The playing body went to gamble with their match,” Klutse told Joy Sports.
“It’s the players who told us. They said, âThis one [player] bet, this one [player] bet,’ including our team manager. So we had to sack the whole team.
“In the end, I went to the Disciplinary Committee meeting. We [the administrators] were not the causeâit’s the players.
"We reported the players to the Nima Police Station and they said, once the thing is on national television, we should rather leave it to the GFA.”
Inter Allies now play in the Division One League while not a lot is heard about AshantiGold.
