Ghana midfielder Bernard Mensah says he admired Real Madrid during his formative years as a footballer but says that love has vanished into thin air now due to his affiliation with Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old joined Atletico Madrid on a six-year deal two seasons ago but failed to establish himself in the side which saw him spending time on loan at Getafe and Vitória Guimarães.

The highly skilled-enforcer was again shipped on loan to Kasimpasa on a season long loan at the start of the just ended Turkish SuperLiga campaign.

Mensah's impressive performance for the Apaches is reported to have caught the attention of several clubs.

Reflecting on his beginning during an interview with Happy FM, Mensah disclosed that used to dream about donning the jersey of Los Merengues, however that dream ceased since joining rivals Atletico Madrid.

"I dream of playing for Real Madrid since childhood but I'm with Atletico Madrid now so I can't say it anymore," Mensah told Happy FM.

"I used to dream playing alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Sergio Ramos, and being coached by Zidane but it's no more because I've become their rival so it forbids me from having that dream again."

He scored five goals in 25 appearances to help Kasimpasa finish 8th on the standings.
