Playing for the Austria national team is the greatest thing - Kevin Danso

Austria-born Ghanaian defender Kevin Danso is relishing the opportunity to play for the Austria national team saying it's the greatest thing to happen to him.

Presently playing for RC Lens in the French Ligue 1, Danso is having the best season of his footballing career and is awaiting a call-up again since 2018.

French newspaper L'Équipe has voted the 23-year-old as Ligue 1 discovery of the season following his terrifying performances for Lens this campaign.

Danso player has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Lens this season since joining from Bundesliga side FC Augsburg in the summer.

He spent the 2019/2020 season on loan at English side Southampton where he manged only ten appearances.

He has played for Austria at the U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels and made his senior debut at the age of 18 on September 2, 2017.

"I was allowed to put on the team jersey for the first time when I was 14. I wear it with pride, we are Afro-Austrians, it would be a dream for my whole family if I were to be there again," Danso told Austrian website Kronen Zeitung.

"There is nothing bigger than hearing the anthem playing for Austria.

The central defender dreams of representing the European country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

"Preferably with Austria at the World Cup. I want to keep developing, getting better from game to game. The rest follows. I'm just grateful to have the confidence here in Lens now."

Austria have a date with Wales in the World Cup play-off later this month.
