Pochettino excited for City return

Published on: 20 April 2019

Mauricio Pochettino does not expect his Tottenham team to suffer any kind of hangover from their European success against Manchester City when they return to the Etihad on Saturday.

Spurs booked their place in their first Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night at the expense of the Citizens, going through on the away goals rule after losing the second leg 4-3 as the tie ended 4-4.

The encounter will go down as an all-time European classic and Pochettino admits his side gave everything to the cause to reach the last four.

The two sides will now go head-to-head for the third time in 12 days in the Premier League with City seeking the win that would send them back to the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Spurs are in need of the points in the fight for the top four and are 11/1 for the win, while City are 1/4 and the draw is 6/1.

City boss Pep Guardiola expects the hurt from Wednesday's Champions League exit will spur on his team but Pochettino has denied their opponents will be seeking revenge.

The Argentine admits it will be tricky having to face City so soon after their mid-week epic, especially given he is missing several key players through injury, Moussa Sissoko the latest man to pick up a problem.

Pochettino said: "Now for us, we need to think that we must be in the top four next season and that is our challenge and it is going to be tough.

"It is made difficult as our circumstances are not the best. They have nearly all players fit and we need to assess players.

"We will miss some players that are so important and we need to think how we are going to mix.

"But, for sure, we need to be sure that we are going to be ready to fight them and challenge them and it will be tough.

"They are not going to fight for revenge. Of course they will try to win the game as they need the three points like us."

Tottenham are 3/10 to finish in the top four this season and 4/1 to go on and win the Champions League.
