Police Ladies head coach Abu Kassim says the Inspector General of Police (IGP) played a key role in their first-ever Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title win over Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
“The feeling is too much it has touched everyone in the Police Service yesterday when it was raining IGP was there with his men at the stadium. They came to the dressing room and IGP told the players I am here your father is here and we won," as aired by Peace FM.
"The excitement that came yesterday evening after the match it hasn't happened. He made the players know that they have done something big even the national team they are not treat like that. What he did for the players in the evening after the match out of excitement out of what we did on the pitch what he did for the players national team are not treated this way. The happiness is there I couldn't sleep," he added.
Jane Ayieyam scored in the 27th minute to put Police Ladies ahead after a dominant start. Ampem Darkoa tried to fight back but were denied by a strong Police defence. Victoria Teye Williams sealed the win late in the 89th minute.
The result earns Police Ladies their first league title and a spot in next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League.
