Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto urges Ghana FA to invest more into grassroots

Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto wants the Ghana FA to invest in grassroots schemes.

Barreto, a former coach of the Black Stars, is calling for the Ghana FA to pump money in improving local football programmes and facilities.

“The GFA must work on improving training facilities for the teams. It helps in player development,” he told Accra-based Starr FM.”

“Ghana has developed in a lot of areas in football. But in infrastructure and training facilities there are problems.

“I always cried seeing my players sleeping and camping in very dirty hotels.”

The Ghana FA came under heavy criticism after it paid 22- members of the former Executive Committee a staggering $15,000 each as ex-gratia with claims the money could have been channeled into improving the fast eroding facilities in the country.
