PREMIER - Fans heed to Guardiola but serves a disappointing result

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola felt "guilty" following a disappointing 0-0 draw against Southampton on Saturday, despite his request for greater fan support.

Guardiola had enraged a segment of City's supporters by calling for greater support after the team's 6-3 Champions League triumph against Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

The low attendance was partially owing to the nearly total absence of Leipzig fans, and the crowd was considerably closer to Etihad's capacity of 55,000 for Southampton's visit.

Even though the players didn't rise to the occasion, the fans generated a lively atmosphere after Guardiola's rallying call.

Guardiola was greeted enthusiastically by the near-capacity crowd, which was predictable given his track record of continuous success at City.

And he said that not putting on a goal-filled show for the spectators was frustrating.

"I always feel awful for them when the game isn't going well. They come to witness a performance or a game, and when that doesn't happen, I feel a little bad because we didn't play well "Guardiola remarked.
