PREMIER - James Milner praised by football pundits for his impressive form

Both Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas were full of praise for Liverpool veteran James Milner after he returned to the side and shone in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 35-year-old made his second Premier League appearance of the season, starting at right-back in the fairly comfortable victory over the Eagles which took the Reds to the top of the table.

The England international produced some remarkable stats, finishing the match as the most prolific player on the pitch in terms of touches, passes, crosses, tackles, distance covered and sprints.

At his age and in an unusual position to him, Lineker was stunned by how effective Milner still is in the top flight.

"This guy just defies Father Time," Lineker said on Match of the Day on the BBC. "He defies belief. A remarkable professional and great player."

Jenas added to the praise for the former Manchester City, Leeds United and Aston Villa man, noting how he kept Palace dangerman Wilfried Zaha remarkably quiet at Anfield.

"It’s remarkable and testament to the way that he’s looked after himself that he can just come into these types of games and perform the way he does," said Jenas.

"The quality that he provides from that right hand side, solid down that right hand side as well."
