PREMIER LEAGUE / Benítez returns to the Premier League

Published on: 10 March 2016

Rafa Benítez looks set to take over as the new head coach at Newcastle. The Spaniard still has a great reputation in England and, according to MARCA sources, is the man chosen to lead the Magpies' fight for survival.

Newcastle currently lie second from bottom in the table and are on an atrocious run of both form and results. The club have hand-picked the Spaniard to replace Steve McLaren and, barring any last-minute hiccups, he will sign for the club in the next few hours.

Benítez had already decided to accept the challenge of saving the club's Premier League status but still had to agree on the length of his contract.

News of the former Real Madrid boss's appointment came as a breath of fresh air at the troubled club. Newspapers ran with headlines like "Please, save us Rafa", which just about sum up the historic English club's precarious position.
