PREMIER LEAGUE / Rondón ends Manchester United\'s upturn in form

Published on: 07 March 2016

Astrike by Salomón Rondón brought an end to Manchester United's good run of form. The defeat against Albion was the eighth of the season for United, who ended the game with ten men following Juan Mata's dismissal.

It was the first time Mata had seen red in his career, and it left Louis van Gaal's men with a mountain to climb. United were visiting The Hawthorns following back-to back-victories that put them within touching distance of the Champions League places. Mata was shown two yellows in the first 30 minutes, leaving United a man short for the remaining hour of the game.

The game had been an even contest for the first hour or so, until a ball from the left wing by Sébastien Pocognoli was hammered home by Rondón, beating keeper David de Gea. The Venezuelan's goal gave Tony Pulis's men a third consecutive victory, and extended their unbeaten run to five games.
