PREMIER - Pep Guardiola on FA Cup loss: Next year we will be back

Published on: 27 October 2021

West Ham United knocked Manchester City out of the FA Cup on penalties.

In a post on Manchester City Twitter account, Pep Guardiola stated, "An incredible run has finished. We finished in a good way. We played in a really good way, creating chances against a team who defended deep. On penalties, they were better. Congratulations to West Ham. Next year we will be back."

The match saw both teams fighting hard but couldn't be separated in normal time, forcing a penalty shootout, in which Pep Guardiola's side's first spot-kick was missed by Phil Foden.

Before Jack Grealish took it to the last penalty, Mark Noble, Jarrod Bowen, Craig Dawson, and Aaron Cresswell made no mistakes to outnumber the successful penalties from Joáo Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus.

West Ham's Sad Benrahma scored from 12 yards to send David Moyes' team through and hand City their first defeat in this tournament since 2016.
