Pressure growing on Montella at Sampdoria

Sampdoria coach Vincenzo Montella has admitted that pressure is growing on his position at the club, with the side continuing to fight against relegation.

The Blucerchiati have been winless in the last eight matches, racking up just two draws and six losses. Their last win was in early January when they defeated Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna.

“We will be under incredible pressure in the next few games, ” Montella said to the press, opening up after the 3-1 defeat to Inter.

“The next matches will be vital for us. We will need to play better than this, and we will need the fans’ support.”

Montella remained optimistic despite the recent run of form.

“We lack a bit of focus, but we are playing well,” he said.

“We need to capitalise more on our chances.”

Next up for Samp is a crucial six-pointer against fellow relegation-battlers Frosinone, where defeat could see Montella’s men slip into the bottom three as the Canarini would leapfrog them into 17th.
