Preview – Round of 16 2nd Leg: Ulsan Hyundai (2) v (1) Urawa Red Diamonds

Published on: 25 June 2019

Ulsan: Ulsan Hyundai will progress to their first AFC Champions League quarter-final since winning the competition in 2012 if they avoid defeat at home to Urawa Red Diamonds in the second leg of the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

Goals from Joo Min-kyu and substitute Hwang Il-su saw Ulsan claim a 2-1 victory in the first leg at Saitama Stadium last week as the Korean team secured a first victory in eight away games on the Continent.

Two-time champions Urawa traditionally have a strong record at home in the knockout rounds but the loss leaves them with an uphill task ahead of the match at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium.

Ulsan have yet to concede at home in this year’s competition, winning all three of their games by a 1-0 scoreline, while Urawa have lost on their last six visits to Korea Republic.

With no K League game at the weekend, the hosts have had a full week’s rest since the first leg. They currently sit third, just a point adrift of the top two with a game in hand.

Urawa also had a weekend off from J.League action and will have the benefit of being able to select Kazuki Nagasawa, who is available again after suspension.
