Just in the year that PSG overcame the Champions League curse that had seen them knocked out at the round-of-16 stage for the past three seasons, the Ligue 1 giants have come up against a huge obstacle between them and their dreams of lifting Europe's premier club trophy.
The coronavirus pandemic that has stopped football for two months across Europe has led to the domestic 19/20 season being cancelled in France, with PSG being handed the title. But that means PSG's players are left without competitive football, while the remainder of leagues across Europe are setting dates to restart. The Bundesliga restarts this weekend.
Champions League likely to get underway in August
Champions League organisers UEFA are now aiming to restart the Champions League in August, specifically on the seventh of the month. In the best case scenario for PSG, they would play their quarter-final on the eleventh. That would be a full five months after Tuchel's side played their last game, putting them at a likely huge disadvantage.
PSG are desperately seeking a solution to the problem, with playing games outside France in the meantime a possibility - no games are allowed inside France until September - but the restrictions across Europe and other teams' schedules may prevent that.
Lyon complained vociferously about the situation when they 'announced' they would be playing their Champions League return leg against Juventus in Turin on 7 August, behind closed doors.
