PSG make contact with Milan & Franck Kessie over potential transfer

Published on: 06 September 2021

Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with Milan and Franck Kessie over a potential transfer in January or next summer.

Kessie, who joined Milan from Atalanta in 2017 – initially on loan and then permanently in 2019 - is currently set to be out of contract at the end of this season. If he does not extend his deal, he could leave the club as a free agent in the summer.

Kessie is already reported to have rejected Milan’s offer of a new contract worth €6.5m per season, sparking interest from Premier League pair Liverpool and Tottenham.

However, PSG have been hot in the free agent market recently, already landing Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma without having to pay a single transfer fee this year.

Footmercato in France now claims that the Parisians have started negotiations to add Kessie to that list.

Although no pre-contract agreement could be finalised until January, it is said that PSG have approached the player’s camp to establish contact and could offer a deal worth €9m annually. That figure would surpass the contract on the table in Milan by an estimated €2.5m.

It is also understood that PSG have been in touch with Milan technical director Paolo Maldini, discussing the possibility of a transfer in January that would still net the Rossoneri a fee, even if a limited one.

Kessie has played over 180 times for Milan since his arrival at San Siro as a 20-year-old. He made 50 appearances in all competitions last season and added a significant number of goals to his game, netting 14 times and finishing behind only Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the club’s top scorer chart.
