Puel rules out Maguire sale

Published on: 08 December 2018

Claude Puel does not think England international Harry Maguire will be leaving Leicester City during next month's transfer window.

The former Hull City defender was linked with a transfer to Manchester United in the summer after starring for his country at World Cup 2018.

However, in September, Maguire signed a new contract with the Foxes that runs until June 2023, saying at the time that: "I owe them [Leicester City] a lot and I'm looking forward to the future".

Puel believes Maguire will still be at the King Power Stadium at the end of this season, saying: "We cannot ever guarantee, but he decided this summer to remain with us, to play a full season.

"He is happy with us, he saw the quality of the team, the ambition, his fantastic team-mates, and of course for Harry or other valuable players of the club, it's important to keep our best players until the end of the season and continue this work.

"In the past, Leicester took the right decisions. We saw this with Riyad Mahrez last season also. It was important to maintain the squad until the end of the season, and to keep all our players to play and perform."

A knee injury has sidelined Maguire since the beginning of November but he is available for Saturday's clash with Tottenham, which Leicester are 14/5 to win. Jamie Vardy misses out though because of a groin injury.

The Foxes are 7/2 to keep a clean sheet against Spurs.
