Rahim Ayew insists the decision not to renew his contract at SK Lierse was mutual.

The Belgian club had announced the Ghana international's contract will not be renewed when it expires this summer.

But the eldest son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele says the decision to part ways with Lierse in June was arrived at by both parties.

"I had an extensive discussion with officials of the club and we concluded it was time to move on," the 24-year-old told MTNFootball.com.

"I have played here for two and a half years now and I think I need a fresh challenge elsewhere in Europe.

"I however remain committed to the club's course until my contract ends in June."

The ex Zamalek midfielder was on his way to regaining top form in Belgium following prolonged spells on the sidelines through injury.

He has started 21 games for De Pallieters this season - 18 in the league and three cup matches where he played in midfield and as both a left and right wing back.
