Ghana midfielder Rahim Ayew made a return to first team action over the weekend in Lierse’s 1-0 defeat to Club Brugge.

The 23-year-old has spent the past two months on the sidelines with a groin injury.

The eldest son of legendary Abedi Pele was handed a late call to the team a day before the game and came through ten minutes of action unscathed.

“I am very happy to finally make a return to active play,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I am now focused on regaining my form to help my club for the rest of the campaign.”

The box-to-box midfielder’s cameo appearance puts him in contention for this weekend’s derby clash with Mechelen.

Ayew could well make Ghana’s squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations if he manages to catch the eye of Coach Goran Stevanovic who is scheduled to make his squad announcement on December 15.
