Rahim Ayew's return to active play has been delayed after he aggravated his thigh injury in training, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 23-year-old midfielder who was in contention for next week's league encounter away to Genk will now spend a further two-weeks on the sidelines.

The Ghana international who was full of optimism after returning to training last week appears completely shuttered by the news but hopes to bounce back even stronger.

"I was very sad when I heard the news that I will be out for a further two-weeks," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"I was very happy when I returned to training only to suffer this new injury but that is football for you.

"I now have to work even harder to ensure I regain full fitness to help my club, I only hope I recover in time."

Ayew, the eldest son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele has seen his football career sky-rocketed after joining the Belgium club from Zamalek where he spent most of his time on the substitutes bench.
