Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer has opened up about his career, revealing that he almost gave up football before becoming a professional.
The German-born Ghanaian began his football career in his hometown of Berlin. He played for Hertha BSC in his youth and put everything into a professional career.
"There was no plan B for me. Either I'll be a footballer or I don't know what to do with my life," said the 20-year-old on the "Pur der HSV" podcast.
After his second torn meniscus, however, the capital city didn’t extend the contract with the then A-youth player â his career was therefore on the brink: “Everything was shit at the time.”
But Königsdörffer was to be given another opportunity at Dynamo Dresden. "Dresden was my last chance for me."
But he took it, and his dream of professional football became a reality.
He now plays for Hamburger SV and has received his debut call-up to Black Stars after opting for Ghana ahead of Germany this year.
Königsdörffer make his first appearance for Black Stars against either Brazil or Nicaragua this month.
