RCD Mallorca fans are celebrating. After suffering a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of the play-off final in Riazor, the Mallorcans had a very difficult task in returning to LaLiga Santander – but a great comeback (3-0) in front of their home fans has brought them back to the top flight to compete against the very best.
Mallorca has had a spectacular run home. They were consistent throughout the league campaign and were almost always amongst the table’s top positions. But their most incredible achievement is that they have done it after having been promoted to LaLiga 1l2l3 only the season prior.
Mallorca’s play-off campaign began with a 2-1 aggregate victory over the impressive Albacete, which earnt them their ticket to the final playoff – a final hurdle that looked almost too difficult after their 2-0 defeat in Riazor.
Mallorca’s promotion to LaLiga Santander means the top flight of Spanish football will once again get to enjoy one of Spain’s historic clubs, after an amazing two-division climb in just a single year.
