Real Madrid decline to offer Isco new contract

Published on: 26 July 2021

Real Madrid are determined to sell Isco this summer before he walks away from the club for free in 2022.

Isco has been a bit-part player at the Santiago Bernabeu for a few years now, but now that the 29-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract, his future at the club is more at risk than ever.

According to AS, there are absolutely no plans to re-sign Isco to an extension. Real are looking to trim their salary and they are not interested in keeping the Spaniard around any longer, while club officials are actively looking for a club to take him on now.

Madrid have made it clear to Isco that he has no future at the Bernabeu and he will be sold if a club meets their asking price of around £15m.

It is thought that Isco has mixed feelings about the whole thing. He has been rejuvenated by the departure of Zinedine Zidane and hopes that Carlo Ancelotti will give him a fair shot at regular minutes, but is also well aware of where he stands at the club.

He dreams of getting back into the Spain squad in time for the 2022 World Cup and has accepted that he's unlikely to play enough at Real to do that.

However, he is not prepared to push for an exit. Isco is happy in Madrid and is genuinely optimistic about his chances under Ancelotti, who was a huge fan of the midfielder during his first spell at the Bernabeu.

Isco is keen to link up with Ancelotti

The boss is understood to have spoken to Isco about the situation and has made it clear that he will be a useful part of the squad if he does end up staying, but there is an acceptance that consistent minutes might be a step too far.

In terms of potential suitors, Napoli are interested but are believed to be keen to wait until they can land the player on a free transfer next year.
