Real Madrid urgently need Benzema to solve their worrying lack of goals

Once again, Real Madrid are depending on Karim Benzema's goals after feeling his absence due to his injury.

Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo departed in the summer of 2018, Benzema has become much more prolific and has scored 74 goals in the last three seasons, with the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons being his highest scoring since he himself arrived at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in 2009.

With Benzema out injured, the big problem for Real Madrid is the fact that there is no other forward in the squad who can help chip in with goals in his absence.

The other Real Madrid attackers have scored a total of 11 goals this season, with Vinicius Junior scoring four, Eden Hazard three, Marco Asensio two, and Mariano Diaz and Rodrygo Goes one apiece.

Without Benzema, Real Madrid have only scored three goals in three games, a total which isn't good enough if they are serious about challenging for the title.

Benzema has scored 17 out of Real Madrid's 53 goals this season, which means the Frenchman has scored almost a third of Los Blancos' goals.

When you also consider the five assists that the 33-year-old has made, it's clear that Real Madrid are a much better team with Benzema in it.

In the six games that he hasn't played, Real Madrid have scored just one goal in five of those encounters and two in the other.

But there is good news for Zinedine Zidane, as it seems likely the French striker will be able to make his return in the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, which will be a welcome boost for Real Madrid, particularly in attack.
