Real Madrid vs Sevilla preview: Will Los Blancos carry forward good run of form?

Published on: 18 January 2020

Real Madrid will shift their focus back to La Liga as they host Sevilla at the Santiago Bernebeu on Saturday and look to carry forward their good run of form.

After winning the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid will shift their focus back to La Liga where they will face Sevilla at home to maintain the pressure on rivals Barcelona at the top of the table.

Sevilla, on the other hand, have been in decent form lately as they have managed to remain unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions. Los Palanganas are currently in the fourth position in the league table and will be a tough nut to crack for Real Madrid.

Probable Lineups

Team News

Real Madrid: Federico Valverde, following his ‘heroics’ in the Spanish Super Cup final against Atletico Madrid, serves a one-match suspension.

Zinedine Zidane must also do without influential captain Sergio Ramos who is currently nursing a sprained ankle. Injured trio Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and top scorer Karim Benzema will all sit this game out.

Sevilla: Former Real boss Julen Lopetegui, who makes a first return to Santiago Bernabéu since being dismissed last season, has a fully fit squad to choose from. It remains to be seen who leads their line with Luuk de Jong, ex-Real marksman Chicharito and Munir El Haddadi all pushing for a start.

Prediction

Real are hitting their stride now and go into Saturday’s meeting unbeaten in nine league matches at home (six wins and three draws).

It should be a closely fought game — considering five points separate the sides plus the hosts are missing two big hitters in Ramos and Benzema — and that’s why we see this contest ending in a stalemate.
