Jamie Redknapp hailed Thiago Silva as a 'born warrior' after the defender's impressive performance in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Thomas Tuchel's side put an end to their mixed recent form after brushing aside Spurs at Stamford Bridge, with Hakim Ziyech having curled home a stunning strike before Silva's bullet header wrapped up the three points.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp heaped the praise on the 37-year-old following his goalscoring display.

'What a signing he's been [Silva]. He has been incredible,' Redknapp told BT Sport.

'For the young players around him to learn from him, his experience. He defends well, heads it, wants to win. You can see he's just a born warrior.'

The defender joined Chelsea in on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 after the expiration of his contract with PSG.

The Brazilian has an immediate impact for the west Londoners, making 60 appearances since arriving at Stamford Bridge and helping Tuchel's side to Champions League glory last season.

Silva was rewarded for his performances at the beginning of the month with a new one-year extension which will keep him at the club until 2023.
