Atsu last week cleared the air over his ethnicity by revealing he was an Ada and NOT an Ewe (people from the Volta Region of Ghana).
He told Allsports.com.gh: "Many people think I am an Ayigbe (Ewe) guy but as you can see me speaking, I come from Ada. My dad is an Ada but it's my mum who is Ayigbe (Ewe)."
Atsu scored the opener in Ghana’s 7-1 drubbing of Mauritius two weeks ago in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
