Right to Dream academy set Europe record, SEVEN graduates play in Denmark top-flight game
Players from Right to Dream were among the Nordsjaelland win yesterday

Ghanaian academy Right to Dream appears to have set an African record when SEVEN graduates from the iconic football grooming school played for one club in a European top-flight competition on Saturday.

The seven players, who were all trained at the Akosombo-based academy in Ghana, played in the Denmark top-flight match on Saturday afternoon to set the record.

The seven Africans were all in action when their club Nordsjaelland secured an impressive 2-1 away win over Esbjerg indicating that the visitors have becomes stronger with the infusion of the youngsters.

This is the first time this high number of Ghanaians have played for a European club in a match. The previous record was five which was held by the same Right to Dream academy.

And indeed, it was only fitting that one of the Right to Dream youngsters in the team Mohammed Kudus was the one who drew his side level after 19 minutes to spark the Nordsjaelland revival in the game.

This was after Esbjerg had taken the lead through Kevin Conboy before Kudus intervened and Mikkel Rygaard scored to secure the win for the visitors.

But it was an entire team effort that secured the win.  Powerful centre-back Abdul Mumin was joined by impressive left-back Clinton Antwi, speedy attacker Isaac Atanga and talented Kamaldeen Sulemana as the five Ghanaians in the starting line-up for Nordsjaelland.

Two other graduates from Right to Dream played a part later in the game as talented winger Ibrahim Sadiq and Mohammed Diomande who came on as substitutes for Atanga and Sulemana respectively to make it seven graduates from the iconic Ghanaian academy.

And their performance has not been wishy-washy but strong as the win over Esbjerg makes it their fourth league victory in a row.

With an average age of 19 among the seven Right to Dream graduates that played the match, it is the youngest group of players in any top-flight league anywhere in Europe this season.

The fact that they are so young and still delivering the results that have sent Nordsjaelland to fourth on the league table shows that they a growing force and a big future threat for their opponents.

It also bodes well for the Ghana national teams as their experiences in the European top-flight leagues will have a trickle-down effect when they are called for the national teams of Ghana as the various age categories. They are among the most consistent Ghanaian players abroad this season.

Kudus has already broken into the first team of Ghana national team, the Black Stars, and announced his presence by scoring an amazing goal on his debut against South Africa.

With this performance and showing of the players from the Right to Dream Academy it is only a matter of time before some of these players gain call-ups to the various national teams.
