Roma 3-1 Frosinone: Giallorossi earn first win of 2016

Roma ended their rotten run in Serie A with a 3-1 win over Frosinone on Saturday evening at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Radja Nainggolan, Stephan El Shaarawy and Miralem Pjanic were on target despite Daniel Ciofani leveling the score at half time.

Despite a brisk opening to the game the Giallorossi were the first to be troubled, but a shot from Federico Dionisi lacking the power to trouble Wojciech Szczesny. New arrival Ervin Zukanovic from Sampdoria came to the rescue shortly after for Roma, clearing the ball that came across the face of goal over the bar for a corner.

The hosts recovered and opened the scoring in unusual circumstances, midfielder Radja Nainggolan hitting the ball goal-ward from a sitting position in the box, with Nicola Leali unable to keep it out.

The lead was short lived, however, with a nonchalant counter attack through Raman Chibsah saw the ball arrive at the feet of Daniel Ciofani who put it beneath Szczesny to level the score.

Nainggolan tried to double his account from distance, but Leali threw himself skyward to deflect the ball over the crossbar. Edin Dzeko finally found a way into the game, hitting the cross from Stephan El Shaarawy on the turn, but Leali got a fingertip to it.

In the second half the hosts retook the lead through El Shaarawy. The Italian making it a debut to remember, with a brilliant flick with the back of his heel on the volley to beat Leali and find the bottom corner. With time running out the win was complete, a brilliant ball from Francesco Totti released Miralem Pjanic who finished brilliantly one-on-one.

Roma have increased the gap between themselves and AC Milan in fifth, while Frosinone fail to move closer to Carpi who are sit in 18th.
