Roma coach could resign over Totti dispute

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti could resign from his position following the well-documented dispute with club captain, Francesco Totti.

Totti hit out at Spalletti in a public interview on Saturday, and the Giallorossi coach answered by leaving him out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of Palermo.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the feud between the Roma captain and Spalletti is complicated by the fact that Totti has already signed a six-year deal as an ambassador at the club.

Therefore, Roma’s president James Pallotta is facing a dilemma. Spalletti has recently signed a two-years contract and the club wants to continue the arrangement, but it will be difficult to juggle the two conflicting parties.

It is thought that the former Zenit St. Petersburg coach could resign if the club does not support him publicly against Totti.

Spalletti has coached Roma for eight matches so far since his return, winning the last five in Serie A and losing only twice.
