ROMA-GUBBIO 3-0

Published on: 25 July 2019

Roma's pre-season preparations continued on Wednesday with a comfortable 3-0 training game victory over Serie C side Gubbio.

With the quality of opposition ramping up slightly, goals from Federico Fazio, Mirko Antonucci and Javier Pastore concluded another win for Paulo Fonseca's side.

Amadou Diawara and Gianluca Mancini both started their first games for the Giallorossi - although Mancini was withdrawn after 30 minutes - as Nicolo Zaniolo also made a first appearance in one of these pre-season encounters.

Both Diawara and Zaniolo went close to scoring during the game on Campo Testaccio, although in the end it was only a late second half burst that added a gloss to the final scoreline after Fazio's early header.

"This week we’ve been working on the physical side of things a bit more, and I think you could see that the legs were a bit heavier out there," Fonseca said afterwards.

"But I think the players worked through that and did well, even if there are always things to improve. We are still only at the start of this journey.”
