Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi admitted he felt like a child when rubbing shoulders with Lionel Messi at the FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich.

The 24-year-old lost out to Brazilian Wendell Lira in the FIFA Puskas Award despite his audacious long-range effort against European and World champions Barcelona.

“There are so many great players here, it was a wonderful day that I lived with the tranquility of a child going to the playground,” Florenzi told reporters in Zurich.

“I accept the verdict, I am very happy to be here and I’ll try to score an even better goal in the future.”

Florenzi was part of the Giallorossi team which drew 1-1 with AC Milan on Saturday evening, a result which heaped more pressure on coach Rudi Garcia, but was not prepared to talk about the Frenchman’s future.

“We have not talked about this, Rudi gave me his support and that’s it,” he added.

“Tomorrow we will all meet again in Trigoria and will try to work, because this is my motto: work, work and work.”
