Roma midfielder to play in Primavera friendly

Published on: 05 February 2016

Long-term Roma absentee Kevin Strootman will take a huge step towards a full recovery on Friday afternoon when he will start for the Giallorossi’s Primavera side in a friendly against Avellino.

Should he make it through the encounter unscathed, it would seem that the midfielder is on track to meet his desired return to first team training, which he has set a target for of mid-February.

Tuttomercatoweb have reported that the midfielder will feature from the start of the friendly in an attempt to return to fitness ahead of joining the first team later this month.

Strootman’s time at the Stadio Olimpico has been plagued by injury, with the Dutchman undergoing several knee surgeries.

Since joining the club in 2013, the midfielder has only featured on 36 occasions, in which time he has scored six goals and assisted an additional nine.
