Ronaldo makes Cantona promise when asked about favourite Manchester United shirt

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he would copy club legend Eric Cantona's iconic collar style on his shirt after scoring for the club at some point this season.

Cantona's turned-up collar was a sign of confidence every single time he walked out onto the pitch for United. While many people over the years suggested that it was just a gimmick, the Frenchman simply played with his collar up on a cold day and decided to keep it after his side won that particular game.

It quickly became an integral part of the forward's look, with 'The King' going on to register 81 goals and 62 assists for United during his career at Old Trafford. Cantona also won 11 trophies with the Reds, including four top-flight titles.

This season, United's home shirt features a collar, and the design has gone down well with players and fans since it was revealed before the start of the campaign. On Wednesday, the club released a behind-the-scenes video from their kit reveal, which was hosted by two 'Little Devils', fans Zac and Charlie.

The youngsters spoke to a number of first-team stars about the team's new kits, and even managed to make a cheeky request to veteran striker and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo.

When asked which of United's kits for this season was his favourite, Ronaldo replied: "The red one is my favourite."

The Portuguese star was pressed to explain why, to which he replied: "Because it's Red Devils, so the red one!"

Ronaldo was then asked if he would wear his collar like United great Cantona used to, and the 37-year-old gave the perfect response to the question.

"I don't think so! Probably, if I score a goal, I'll do it. Ok?" he said.

The Portuguese scored his first goal of the season for Erik ten Hag's side against Sheriff in the Europa League earlier this season, but didn't turn his collar up after converting from the spot. Should the forward feature against Pep Guardiola's side in the Manchester derby at the weekend, he has the perfect chance to keep his word.
